The Unofficial Top Road Rides in the Greater Terrace Area
Zymacord Hill ~ +/- 30 km (out 'n back)
Head West on Hwy 16 to the Zymacord River (+/- 30 km). Possible route extensions include Delta Creek (45 km), Shames Mountain turn off (52 km), and the John Little Rest Area (70km).
Peeing Tree & Rosswood General Store ~ 80 km (out 'n back)
Head North on the Nisga'a Hwy. Get refreshments at the Peeing Tree and the Rosswood General Store - surprisingly great food here! Beautiful scenery and rolling terrain.
Jackpine Loop Clockwise ~ +/- 42 km (loop)
Start anywhere on Jackpine Road to complete the loop. Work hard for it and descend into Terrace.
Jackpine Loop Reverse ~ +/- 31 km (loop)
Starting at the Hwy 16 / Hwy 37 4-way stop, head South on Hwy 37 and turn left onto Old Lakelse Lake Road. Good for a late afternoon ride before the "Kitimat 500" traffic begins.
Mailbox Point ~ 50 km (out 'n back)
Follow Queensway Drive to a challenging climb at Beam Station Road. Continue to Mailbox Point near Lakelse Lake. All the work climbing up to the plateau is rewarded with a fun descent to the lake.
Ride to the Slide ~ 80 km (out 'n back)
Head East on Hwy 16 to Legate Creek. There is a rough final 5 km on sealcoat and the option to turn around at the Davidson Rest Area (+/- 65 km return from the Hwy 16 / Hwy 37 4-way stop).
Time Trial ~ 5km
Starts at the smaller pullout west of Kitsumkalum. Ride for 5k West to the first driveway past Zymacord Bridge. This more or less flat section of road is great for pushing hard intervals, chase sprints, or whatever workout you can devise that requires a measured distance.
Centennial Road Loop ~ 9.5 km (loop)
Head West on Halliwell Avenue and take a right onto the Kalum Lake Road / Nisga'a Hwy, turn right on Douglas Road and then right on Martel Road. Martel Road turns into Centennial Road. Continue up and over to Fosberry Road and Johnston Road (basically follow the natural road). Continue along until a short climb to Eby Street and that puts you back onto Halliwell Avenue.
Dover Loop ~ 12.5 km (loop)
Head North of town on Kalum Lake Road and turn right at Dover Road. Continue to Merkely Road and turn right again, heading into town. Turn left at the T intersection of Merkely Road and Johnston Road. A short climb up to Eby Street brings you to Halliwell Avenue. The road is quiet but there is some sealcoating.
Red Bridge ~ 66 km (out 'n back)
From the Hwy 16 / Hwy 37 4-way stop, ride South on Hwy 37 to the Kitimat River Bridge and back. Perfect for a long Sunday ride.
Combo Mix - Linton Cloverleaf (+/- 110 km) (one way)
Combine the Jackpine Loop, Beam Station Road, and Zymacord Hill - excellent long training day for the Gran Fondo race.
